    Breaking routine

I spent the weekend with inky fingers, creating art with my peers at Artiscape in Dublin, Ohio. I had so been looking forward to the annual weekend-long event. My friend Cathy and I travel together – she’s the driver. We left Friday morning and took nearly the whole day to get there, stopping at any antique store along our path. We even ventured into one estate sale where we scored some interesting objects! We took a little side trip to Wapakoneta to visit Gild the Lily, a lovely little antique shop we visited about three years ago. We were so glad we made to effort to get there because Glenna,…

    Studio continues to evolve

We often get asked just what is Green Door Studio. Truth be told, we don’t really have it figured out quite yet. We’re still evolving. When Rachel and I decided to open this business a little over two years ago our thoughts were that we would offer classes and sell our painted furniture. Over time the business has changed a bit but remains pretty close to what we had in mind. We still scour estate sales and auctions for pieces to redo and now we’ve expanded to custom painting. The custom painting has kept me really busy lately and I have commissions waiting to come in well into February. Classes…

    Heading West – the beginning

It started out all flat and good. We gathered maps and sight-seeing books, packed the car and hit the road about 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, headed toward Chicago to pick up 94 then 90. The cityscape there is beautiful but traffic leaves a lot to be desired. Seemed like it took us forever to get through the congested area and on to some open roads. We didn’t get nearly as far as we thought we would that first day, stopping for the night in East Madison, Wisconsin. We always pull in early for the night if we’re near a place that has hotels and after pushing through all that…

    Christmas is a coming!

Howdy again! I’m back again as guest designer with Dream Weaver this month and looking forward to sharing with you some ideas I have for using Dream Weaver products. This is my second post this month for the theme Thankful and Thoughtful. Link your creations, using the Thankful and Thoughtful theme on the Dream It Up! blog using the Inlinkz tool at the end of this post – you could win the stencil of your choice and a bonus stencil of our choosing could be yours for using Dreamweaver products in your artwork. Be sure to stop by the blogs of the regular Dream Team members as well – loads…

    Savoring every page …

So I come in the back door like I do every day from work, drop the keys in the watermelon dish, empty the lunch bag and put the dirty dishes in the dishwasher and then look to see if there is any mail on the counter for me. There usually isn’t. But today there’s a large manilla envelope along with a bill. I’m opening the bill and see the large envelope is from Stampington and I’m thinking it’s a catalog from CHA and then … the flutters start in the stomach. I realize I didn’t order any catalog and I remember the company sends a free copy of the magazine…

    Xyron delivers

I was super-duper excited when the call came from Beth Kingston that I had made the Xyron Design Team. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to make that team but am so happy to be a part of it. When the box of supplies arrived from Xyron I couldn’t believe how big it was – and just how heavy it was. I couldn’t wait to get it open and see what kind of goodies I would have to work with. The company’s generosity was way beyond my expectations. In the box was a ton of products – from Xyron and partner companies. In addition to lots of Xyron’s…

Reminders, road trips and Red Lead …

Hey, it’s my three R’s and it sounded cute; what more can I say about that title. Reminders are for my design team posts that will be coming up in May and my fabric book class that starts next Monday. Road trips are something I just love to do with my friend Cathy – we travel so well together. It is just a peaceful and enjoyable time when we hit the road together. And Red Lead…need I say more! If you haven’t been, make an effort to visit and have a lovely road trip! If you could see me now you’d be able to tell what I’ve been doing this…

Art Glitter Design Team 2012 Audition …

My goal this year is to work at my business. I call myself a mixed-media instructor because I find myself working with such a variety of materials anymore that I cannot, in all honesty, call myself a scrapbook instructor anymore, especially since I tend to teach mostly mini book projects. In order to work at my business my projects really need to get noticed and applying for positions on a few key design teams such as Art Glitter is pretty much essential. I discovered I could work Art Glitter into my world several years ago when owner, Barbara Trombley, visited my local scrapbook store which I managed at the time.…
